Of all the places you could be right now, I’m really glad you’re here.
My portfolio illustrates the impassioned work that has influenced both my academic and personal journeys. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Spanish Studies from American University in May 2023, followed by a master’s in Sociology Research & Practice the next year. During my time at AU, my research centered on sexual and reproductive health, with particular attention to Black maternal health and wellness, sexual health disparities, and the broader fight for reproductive justice.
Now as a doctoral student at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, I study Black women’s vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections (STIs), examining the sociocultural forces impacting their vulnerability to poor sexual health outcomes, access to care, and quality of care. In response to these disparities, my work shifts the narrative from risk and deficit to sexual agency and empowerment, with the goal of equipping Black women with the right tools to maintain their autonomy.
At the heart of my work is commitment to the wellbeing, autonomy, and agency of Black women, a population that has long been denied the ability to make independent, informed decisions about their bodies and health. This space also features several pieces that reflect the issues I’m most passionate about.
